Winter Weather
As winter weather begins, we want to share with you how decisions are made regarding the building, weather, road conditions, and power outages. In case of building power outage, our website will be updated but phones will not work.
How do I find out if the building is open or closed?
The best way is to check right here on our website, which is updated regularly. In general, we follow the guidance of the Lake Washington School District for weather closures. When LWSD closes or begins late, the church building is closed until 2pm. By 2pm, staff evaluates the road conditions, parking lot and stairs, and forecast to decide whether to hold evening activities.
But my neighborhood is fine! Why is the church closed?
HSLC is fortunate to have participation from people all over the area. Staff and community members drive from various towns so that programs can happen. We want to make sure the roads are safe for as many people as possible when deciding whether to open and building and hold activities. In addition, the church parking lot and stairs can be in bad shape even when major roads are fine. Our hope is to close as seldom as possible, but everyone’s safety is the first consideration.
What about worship on Sundays?
Except in very rare circumstances, we will always open the building on Sunday mornings for scheduled worship times. If traveling to worship is not safe for you, remember that the 9:30am worship service is livestreamed, and you can participate in worship and give online anytime.
What about online classes?
Events or ministries that take place online like Crossways or the Contemplative Prayer zoom class will continue even when the building is closed. Those events will only be cancelled in the case of power outage for the leadership of those events.
