HSLC Refugee Resettlement Committee

Resettlement Efforts

We provide support and encouragement to immigrant and asylum-seeking families in the USA. One of the ways we do this is as new families are identified for resettlement, we gather and deliver donations from our congregation to furnish their “new” homes. Once the refugees are settled in their homes, we provide a variety of ongoing support to ensure successful integration into their new communities. This support may include “check-in” visits as well as help with school enrollments, transportation, health care, financial literacy, etc.

Refugee Family Update and Help Wanted!

We have good news! The Refugee Resettlement Committee has been assigned two families by Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW):

Family 1: Arrived on December 3 - parents and three children (ages 8, 6, and 3) from Afghanistan. They will live in the south end but are currently staying with their US tie.

Family 2: Will be arriving on December 17 - couple and older daughter from El Salvador. They will temporarily live with the Worthen family.

Urgent: Help us welcome a refugee family!

Thanks to a lot of behind-the-scenes partnership between our Refugee Resettlement Committee and LCSNW, we are preparing to provide temporary housing to the family of three arriving on 12/17. We need your help to furnish their permanent housing by Sunday, December 22.

How can you help? Please click the button below to sign up to purchase an item for this family! We are purchasing new household items and collecting new or gently-used furniture. You can also donate money towards the purchase of mattresses or other larger items. Please visit the document for step-by-step instructions.

If you have any questions, please contact Susan Worthen through the church office. Thank you for your support and help!

Hope for the Holidays Program

The HSLC Refugee Resettlement Committee would like to thank you for participating in Global Refuge's 2024 Hope for the Holidays card project! Holy Spirit created 264 cards, many homemade, to be delivered to immigrants and asylum seekers this holiday season. From Global Refuge, "These cards and gifts are a source of hope—proof that someone is thinking of them, praying for them, and offering kindness and encouragement during a season that can be particularly difficult.”
