Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our very first Congregational Meeting on Zoom! All the Council Candidates up for election and reelection were approved, and our no-increase budget was also approved. You can see the presentation given at the meeting below!
Council Candidates up for Election and Reelection
Paul De La Port
Paul is originally from South Africa, but proudly calls the Pacific Northwest home. He, his wife Jennifer and their children Luke and Anna have been members at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church since 2013 moving here from Austin, Texas. They enjoy the outdoors, spending as much time as they can in the mountains hiking and skiing, or on the water in the San Juans and beyond. Paul is the co-founder of Silver Falls Capital, a private investment company focused on the acquisition and operating of businesses based in the Pacific Northwest. He has served on the church council for the past 3 years supporting technology and most recently as member of strategy committee.
Amy Wulfestieg
After spending 13 years in Chicago after graduating from Valparaiso University, Amy returned to her roots in the Pacific Northwest and joined Holy Spirit in 2012. As the head of corporate communications for her company based in Chicago, Amy travels often to the windy city. In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband Brian and their children Lucy and Max to ski, travel and explore new restaurants. Amy has served on the Council for the past three years and is a member of the Children, Youth and Family committee. She has also participated in the Salt House gift strategy and process as well as the strategic planning committee.
Mark Wegener
Mark has served on the Church Council for the past three years. He and his wife Rosemarie have been members of Holy Spirit for 14 years along with their two children. Mark is a civil engineer and has served on the Property Committee for the church.
Kathie Olson
Kathie is a Registered Nurse living in the Juanita area with her husband Rich. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and has recently added a new outdoor activity to her free time by learning to golf. Kathie has been a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran church for the past 22 years. She has served on council as Vice President and President during her past three year term. Kathie is looking forward to supporting the church's mission by serving for another 3 years on council.
Brent Barker
Brent Barker was born in Montgomery, Alabama and attended Florida State University. He served in the U.S. Army for 10 years including in the 82nd Airborne Division and the Berlin Brigade. After the Army, Brent served as a Special Agent in the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service for 20 years. During his federal law enforcement career, he served in Shanghai, China, the Fiji Islands and Vilnius, Lithuania. Upon his retirement from the federal government in 2009, he moved to Seattle to join the University of Washington in a newly created Travel Security Manager position. Now fully retired, Brent and his wife, Marcia enjoy traveling and reading. Their two sons, Edmund and Martin are graduates of Evergreen State College and Oregon State University and live in Seattle. The Barkers joined Holy Spirit in 2010.
Dave Papenhausen
Dave has been a Holy Spirit member for over 11 years. He is a graduate of California Lutheran University (it was only a college when he attended) and was in the third graduating class. He spent 11 years flying carrier-based aircraft in the Navy and had a 27 year career at Boeing before his retirement in 2007. He previously served for 6 years on the HSLC Church Council, spending 3 years as Council president. He is looking forward to re-engaging in Council activities.
