Pastor Michael Anderson

Pastor Mike grew up in Minnesota, attended Gustavus Adolphus College and Luther Seminary, and has served his entire career in the Pacific Northwest. He is married to Patty Anderson, a nurse manager at Virginia Mason Clinic in Kirkland, and they have one daughter, Sara, who is a recent graduate from California Lutheran University. Pastor Mike has a special interest in Biblical study and inclusive theology. For his entire career he has taught a two-year Bible survey course which covers every Biblical book. A history buff, Pastor Mike loves to read, travel, go to museums, and learn new things. He is a runner, a hacker at golf, and someone who enjoys a good dinner party.

Pastor Katy McCallum Sachse

Pastor Katy McCallum Sachse grew up in Edmonds and came to Holy Spirit Lutheran in 2008. Her first call was as Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She’s a proud graduate of Pacific Lutheran University and Luther Seminary, and loves to read, knit, and drink coffee. She and her husband, Brian, have a five-year old daughter, Maren. She especially feels called to preaching, teaching, and finding ways to incorporate faith formation into daily life.

Pastor Mary-Alyce Burleigh

Associate Pastor

Pastor Mary-Alyce Burleigh grew up in Sumner, Washington, and attended Washington State University and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Following a career as a Redmond High School history teacher, she was elected to the Kirkland City Council, serving one term as mayor and now has been called to serve at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church where she has been a member since 2005. She loves to read, especially non-fiction and mysteries, kayak on Puget Sound, and cross-country ski. She also enjoys opportunities to join her 2 brothers and sister in family gatherings, and taking her terrier Barny on walks through the woods.

Pastor Rita Anderson

Associate Pastor

Pastor Rita is a native Washingtonian. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg. After serving as Associate Pastor at Saint Andrews Lutheran Church in Bellevue, she and her husband, Steve, moved to Gig Harbor, Washington where her primary ministry was pastoral care in the hospital setting. After moving to Kirkland, she and her husband joined Holy Spirit. Shortly thereafter in April of 2015 she was installed as Associate Pastor at Holy Spirit where her primary call is helping with word, sacrament, and small group ministry. Pastor Rita is an artist who loves to paint and draw. She loves being innovative and creative in her art and her ministry.

Marjorie Buchanan

Parish Administrator

Marjorie Buchanan joined the staff at Holy Spirit in 2012. She describes her role as Parish Administrator as a wonderful opportunity to combine many of her past work experiences—small business administration, bookkeeping, medical billing, and human resource research. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon and has lived in Seattle since 1991. Marjorie and her husband Scott have two children, Alan and Meghan. She loves to quilt, read and spend time with friends.

Danielle Dadashi

Director of 9th—12th Grade Ministries and Online Ministries

Danielle Dadashi began working as the Director of High School Ministries in 2010, and has been a member of Holy Spirit her whole life. She loves traveling, reading, and telling jokes that make teenagers roll their eyes. She feels called to create a loving, safe, and welcoming faith community where teenagers can form relationships with each other and God. Danielle also manages the online ministries at Holy Spirit, including this website!

Becky Cole

Children and Family Ministry Director

Becky Cole grew up in a small town in Minnesota. She moved to Washington in 1996 and started attending Holy Spirit in 1998. Becky volunteered with Rainbow Kids and Vacation Bible School before joining the staff in 2007 as Children’s Ministry Director. Becky and her husband, Christopher, have two boys in elementary school. They love to spend time together camping, going to baseball games and traveling. She especially feels called to include every child, teach the grace of Jesus Christ, and live life as God called.

Tammie Zarfos

Director of Confirmation and 55+Alive

Tammie Zarfos has been involved in Youth Ministry for over 25 years. She was commissioned as a Deacon in the ELCA in 2007 and has the unique call of working with both the Confirmation Program and the 55+Alive Group. Tammie is committed to helping youth discover the awesomeness of God in their lives, and they teach her about that all the time. She is honored to spend time with the Vintage Spirits and plan activities that help them feel welcome and valued. In her free time, you can find her in her sewing room quilting or in the kitchen trying out a new recipe. She and her husband, Todd have two grown children and two Jack Russell Terriers.

John Sparkman

Director of Music

John came to Holy Spirit in 2010 after serving congregations in Indiana and his home state of North Carolina. A 2002 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with degrees in Music and Religious Studies, John began playing for church services in junior high and has long had a sense of calling to music ministry. Currently completing a Masters degree in Church Music from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, John finds great joy and fulfillment in facilitating the music ministry at Holy Spirit. When not at HSLC, John teaches and musically directs with Village Theatre in Issaquah, teaches privately, and has served as staff accompanist for several Seattle area choruses. When not being musical, passions include cycling, yoga, wishing he was a better runner, and wishing that he could kick his bad Starbucks habit.

Sean Bendickson

Office Administrator

Sean Bendickson is a born-and-raised Lutheran. Growing up in Montana, he was heavily involved in his home church's music ministry and the Montana Lutheran Youth Organization. After graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in 2003 with an English/Writing degree, he moved to Seattle to pursue his love of music. He has taught at Trinity Lutheran College and led music at synod-wide events around the Pacific Northwest. He now lives with his wife, son and step-daughter in Lake City and leads the worship team at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Everett every Sunday morning.

Custodian / Wedding Assistant

Patti Peterson joined the HSLC staff as Custodian the week of Vacation Bible School in 1993. When she isn’t cleaning at church she enjoys gardening, Sounders Soccer, Mariner Baseball and Seahawk’s Football. Originally from Mount Vernon, she was baptized, confirmed and married at Salem Lutheran Church. Patti and her husband, John, live in Kirkland.

Arief Abraham

Worship Musician

Arief Abraham has been worship pianist at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church since 2003. He is originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, and started studying music through the Yamaha Music Foundation at age five. His family later moved to the US and he continued to study piano at Duke University while majoring in Economics and French. As a baritone, Arief has been singing with the Seattle Men’s Chorus since 2001. Outside of his music ministry, Arief works in the field of hi-tech marketing.

Eric Peterson

Chancel Choir Director

Eric Peterson grew up in north central Montana and moved to this area to attend the University of Washington. Eric and his wife joined HSLC in the early 1990’s, and son Brendan and daughter Kayleigh were baptized and confirmed here. Eric started as choir director in 2000. Outside the church Eric is employed in the software industry and volunteers as a softball coach and at a local winery.
